A2 project synopsis
Request (working title) -project synopsis.
A teenager’s impulsive screen tap to kill his long-kept fear.
Zayn sighs as he scrolls down on his laptop. It wasn’t the first time he sat for long in front of Sara’s profile in his room.
Sara, the girl in his chemistry class he’s been crushing on for the past 4 months. Nobody knew except for his best friend
Haris, having some clues. Haris and Zayn made sure they share everything but this time around he didn’t really open up
properly to Haris about his recent butterflies for the girl.
Every time Zayn would try to talk about it, he backed off thinking about how Haris would force him to take immediate
action or just won't understand. But he couldn’t hold it in anymore, he needed someone to know how he felt and finally
decides to call Haris at their favorite spot to hangout, which was just the dead end of their neighborhood. He calls him for
“a chat” which was an often thing they did post dinner time.
Zayn walks down the street to meet up, they bump fists and sit on the pavement as Haris offers him a cookie that he rejects.
Haris talks about the champions league like an absolute fanboy for the next 10 minutes. Little did he know what Zayn’s
going to let out today. “I’ve got something to tell you” he says. Haris awkwardly stays quiet for a second expecting him to
continue and then sarcastically asks him if he’s scared of the dark. “No just listen, I- I have something- at school and- Haris
cuts him off with a loud ‘ohhhh” as he bins the cookie wrapper he had in his hand, realizing just what his friend might want.
It’s that girl, isn’t it? Wha- what was her name? Sara!? Yeah. Zayn covers his face with his hands as he readies himself to
explain the situation to his overly dramatic friend. They go back and forth in conversation and after a couple of minutes and
several hyped expressions by Haris, he grasps the story. Zayn sighs, part relieved and part tense wondering what his best
friend had to say on the situation.
“So, someone’s in love huh? Says Haris while nodding Zayn, “why would you-, he tries to control his laughter, why would
you unsend the request the second after you sent it you dumbass, she definitely noticed that”. Haris then settles himself to
a serious mood as he sees his friend in worry. “You should probably send it back again, what’s the worst that can happen”
asks Haris trying to comfort his friend. He then goes on to explain how a request could just be a great opportunity for their
friendship to begin and how he thinks Sara might have a thing for Zayn too. Yeah sure! Says Zayn sarcastically, she might
as well just ask me to date her then too huh? “Look I can barely even hold eye contact with her, this all would just make it
worse. I don’t want a request worsening what we have no matter how minor it be”
Haris pulls out another cookie and persuades Zayn to follow what he says. Haris goes on explaining how Zayn's overthinking
is letting him down and asks him to send her a request as it is common for classmates to do so. “Mate get your head right,
will you? you don’t understand! Zayn answers in disagreement. “Only thing I'm getting from this request are just more
awkward interactions with her. You’ve always been a coward, murmurs Haris in disappointment. “You either send that
request to her and overcome your little wimpy fear or you see her live about her life without ever knowing how you felt”.
“I’d still advice your coward little ass to tap the button” says Haris as he tosses the second wrapper in the trash can across
the street. Zayn stands up and takes a deep breath. He explains how it was easy for Haris to preach all that while he munches
on his cookies. “I know you’d be the same way if you were in my shoes” says Zayn. Both the boys find themselves in a
tensed-up situation that was backed by the silence of a cold December night. With all the arguments put up, Zayn finds
himself at the same point he started except plus with a friend he got upset.
“Even your silence is all wimpy” says Haris in a mocking tone. Haris gets up and stands next to Zayn and explains him his
analogy of how his attempts to toss the paper wrappers in the bin would have always been debatable to go in or not if he
didn’t ever try. Zayn slaps his forehead in disbelief of his friend’s dumb analogy and argues how he isn't a cookie wrapper.
“You know what” says Zayn pulling out his phone, “I’m probably going to care less when this is over, no matter how it
ends”. “Atta boy!” says Haris followed by a loud scream as he watches Zayn tap the “follow” button. Zayn drops the phone
in nervousness as his heart pounds fast. “Wha- what I thought you wanted me to send it” says Zayn. “I did I did! You did
it, holy cow you did it” says Haris revealing his true nervousness for his friend behind the "just be cool with it" image he
carried for the meantime.
They both stare at the phone on the ground for a couple of minutes. Haris then leans in to pick it up and as his finger
touches it, the phone rings. Haris looks back confirming his anxious and perturbed friend that the notification was indeed
the one he day dreamt of for the past 4 months. Zayn sits on the sidewalk in disbelief as Haris joins him. The boys both
look at each other and burst out in laughter, one laughs at the look on his friends face and the other laughs relieving all the worry the young heart had carried.
